The 411 GALLERIES is proud to announce the upcoming exhibition; "An Éire of the Senses" at the Ireland pavilion at World Expo 2010 in Shanghai China. The exhibition will open on June 16th and will coincide with the visit of Mary McAleese to Shanghai and the pavilion. This page is still under construction but will fill up with all the participating artists information and their images in the next few weeks. The exhibition is funded by Culture Ireland and is assisted by the Irish Expo pavilion and Le Chéile the Irish Community of Shanghai. The actual artwork will not go on display on the website until the opening of the exhibition in June.
About the Exhibition:
This exhibition is among only a few large scale exhibitions that the 411 Galleries has undertaken. I had planned on an exhibition like this for a long time. I wanted to invite artists that had previously shown in past exhibitions. We have had the honour of showing the work of hundreds of artists but this time we had to keep the artists at a minimum. This was of course to facilitate a larger exhibition and also we were aware early that the exhibition space would be small. We asked a number of artists that we have kept in contact with over the years to submit work. We also wanted an exhibition that would represent the many strands that is Irish visual art. I think this exhibition represents well Irish Art as it is today.
I was asked earlier would there be a theme and as always I like to keep themes at a minimum or even avoid them completely. I find that asking artists to work in a theme is a hindrance to their natural practice. It is much better I believe to see work produced by a given artist in their natural state of interest and investigation.
